Patek Philippe introduces its first contemporary automaton wristwatch with Reference 5249R-001, inspired by a 1958 creation by Louis Cottier and drawing on Jean de La Fontaine’s The Crow and the Fox. Housed in a 43mm rose gold Officer-style case, the dial is a showcase of Rare Handcrafts, featuring hand-engraved gold appliques and animated elements where the fox indicates the hours and a cheese-shaped hand marks the minutes on demand. Each piece requires extensive manual craftsmanship, including 150 hours of engraving. Powered by the 31-260 PS HMD AU calibre, this complex movement incorporates a patented disengaging clutch and retrograde display system, all visible through a sapphire case back, combining poetic storytelling with advanced horological engineering.
